Good Vibrations

Some days just have them.   Today, for example.   We went upstate to a water park for the afternoon, but this alone cannot explain it.   The first hour that we were there was chaotic, as the place was literally overrun with groups of day-campers, and the staff clearly did not know how to handle such crowds.   But at around 2pm, the campers all got on their buses and drove away,  and we spent the next two hours riding water slides and playing in the wave pool without long lines or fear of being jumped on by a pack of boys who were aiming for someone else.

We left at 4pm, just before a large rainstorm set in.   Traffic into the city was light and we were home before 5:30.   Maybe that contributed to the generally happy feeling.   We ate and walked to Starbucks while rhyming – things like “Eat pie, fly high sky guy,”  which competed with “Eat pie sky high, fly guy” and both of which caused constant giggling.

Maya took a shower, Ben made a video and I read my sewing magazines.  We decided we need to arrange another overnight with friends, hopefully to coincide with the premiere of the new season of “Project Runway” this Thursday.    Pilates on Friday is canceled for me this week  so I’m thinking an entire day of sewing would be fun instead.   The kids think they should get an all day playdate in return.   I think we have a deal.

Then I opened the Times and read three great articles.   One was about the revitalization of the South Bronx, done with the help of government.   The Bronx is a great example of what people and government can do if they put politics aside.   If you are interested in reading about it, you can find the Times by copying this link into your browser:   http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/26/nyregion/government-cant-help-tell-it-to-the-south-bronx.html?scp=1&sq=Government%20can%27t%20help&st=cse

Then there was an article about evolution in the city and how scientists are flocking here from all over the world to study our vegetation and wildlife – a similar article appeared in New York Magazine a few months ago.   (Here’s the link to that one:  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/26/science/26evolve.html?ref=science )

And finally, there was an article about traveling and how if you treat others with respect, they will generally respond in kind.  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/26/business/treat-people-with-respect-and-pack-duct-tape.html?scp=1&sq=Treat%20people%20with%20respect&st=cse

So fun outside, fun at home, good reading and a plan for the rest of the week.   And a late evening rainstorm…    Mix it all together and you get our day.   Good vibes, man.
